New song, new aesthetic, and an upcoming new album are sending the Skeleton Clique into a frenzy.
Over the past few days, fans of Twenty One Pilots have gone gaga over the message from the band that something was about to arrive soon. It’s almost a long-running tradition where the Ohio-based duo will give the Clique cryptic clues pointing to an upcoming project, and the fans, in turn, will carry out a cooperative sleuthing to figure out what Tyler Joseph and Joshua Dun are up to. This time, the prizes are: a forthcoming new album called ‘Scale and Icy,‘ a lead single titled ‘Shy Away,’ and an upcoming live-streamed concert.

A glimpse of the new era
‘Shy Away’ is the first track from the Twenty One Pilots’ upcoming sixth album ‘Scaled and Icy’ set to drop on May 21 via Fueled by Ramen. It arrived with a music video that showcases the band’s new aesthetic, which shies away from their usual branding dominated by dark and heavy colors.
Band vocalist Tyler Joseph is said to have produced much of ‘Scaled and Icy’ in his home studio, writing, recording, and producing the songs while Josh Dun contributed his drum parts from across the country. A press release describes the album as “the product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 – anxiety, loneliness, boredom and doubt.”
In addition to new music, Twenty One Pilots have also announced their first-ever global streaming event titled ‘Twenty One Pilots Livestream Experience.’ It is set to happen on May 21st at 8PM ET/5PM PT, and will feature some of the band’s greatest hits along with their newest creations. You can pre-order a ticket here.
