It’s Friday everyone and that means it’s time for a recap of the songs that made it to our Top 10 Songs of the Week (October 20-26)! As usual, every Friday we give you the full run-down of our Top 10 Songs of the Week. And we know you’re just itching to get your hands on some top-shelf OPM music. So here’s the official line up of the songs that made it on our Top 10 Weekly!
1. ‘The Sun’ by Any Name’s Okay
If you are feeling down, Any Name’s Okay comes to the rescue as they release a single titled ‘The Sun’!
We can’t expect you to fully trust us, but the newest single of Any Name’s Okay will absolutely make you feel good! Titled ‘The Sun’, this song by the five-piece pop-alternative band is very uplifting. It makes us imagine better days ahead of us and it actually makes us excited once again for the future.
If you’re like me that looks for new heartbreak songs to add to my songs-to-cry-to-playlist then MNTKLYA has got one tear-jerker for you! Have you ever been in love with someone and thought everything was okay until one day they just up and leave you? No explanations, no tearful separation, nothing.
And so that person just leaves, leaving you nothing but heartbreak and trust issues. Enter: ‘I Love You Sabay Bawi’ by MNTKLYA! They have been performing ‘I Love You Sabay Bawi’ for a while now but have only officially released it on Spotify last October 18.
Just like the single cover, ‘Destination’ by Leanne and Naara is the perfect song to listen to when you go cruising in the car at night. Leanne and Naara’s latest single just makes us feel all the things you feel on late-night drives going nowhere. The cool night breeze, great company, and even greater music. Released just last October 18, this chill-track definitely deserves a spot on our Top 10. Don’t believe us? Have a listen for yourself. You’ll see the streaks of street lights and feel the cool night air in no time.
4. ‘Ang Tangi Kong Pangarap’ by Sarah Geronimo
This song was actually an original by Rico Blanco titled ‘Ang Tangi Kong Pangarap’. Sarah Geronimo sang a rendition of it for especially for the movie ‘Unforgettable’, and it sounds really good. Even if we are separated by a screen, we can really feel the emotions that she wants to convey.
Check out the music video which shows Sarah pouring her heart out to the song. It also includes some clip teasers from the movie, so try not to cry!
5. ‘Isang Gabi’ by Julie Anne San Jose and Rico Blanco
Julie Anne San Jose never disappoints. And that remains true with her newest song with Rico Blanco, ‘Isang Gabi’. It’s a song that talks about the limits one has when they’re in a forbidden relationship. It’s honestly very deep. And if she sang this in the 90s, it would be the title of a telenovela by now. Kidding aside, ‘Isang Gabi’ by Julie Anne San Jose is a wonderfully arranged classic OPM ballad that you shouldn’t miss out on. Listen to it right now!
6. ‘Himig ng Pagibig’ by Shanne Dandan
What if I told you that ‘Himig ng Pagibig’ by Shanne Dandan was actually a reprisal from a song in 2004 by Asin? Surprising right? Because it sounds like an original with her voice. If you’re into deep ballads with a modern electro twist, definitely give ‘Himig ng Pagibi’ by Shanne Dandan a listen! We’re warning you though, her music video is also a trailer for the movie ‘Adan’ and it’s very interesting. You’re going to be hooked!
7. ‘Sabi Nila’ by Rice Lucido
Beautiful, isn’t it? We especially love how the MV starts and ends with just Rice and the sound of the ocean waves. Admit it, there’s nothing more serene than the beach. The water’s calm waves, the cool and fresh air, the beautiful sun — we actually felt like we were at the beach with the new music video for ‘Sabi Nila‘ by Rice Lucido. This song is included in her album, ‘Hele ng Maharlika’.
The MV made us feel really at peace with ourselves, even though the message was a little sad. We have a few theories about it, so read until the end!
Feast your eyes on shortone & Alisson Shore’s latest MV drop, ‘Lakan’ as it tells the tale of a modern love story! As our local artists further improve their craft, we are blessed with more and more wonderfully made Filipino songs. And these two musicians are not to lose. On Saturday, shortone & Alisson Shore dropped their ‘Lakan’ MV. It tackles the tale of two people bonded together by love but there’s only one problem, society forbids them to.
What would a Top 10 Songs of the Week list be without something you can shake your hips to? And that’s exactly what ‘Experience’ by Massiah and James Reid is for. I’m sure you all have this on your playlists already, but if you haven’t you should add it right now! Although I’m sorry Massiah, the best part of this song is James Reid’s sultry voice singing to us equally sultry lines. #NoRagrets
10. ‘Peklat Cream’ by Bita and the Botflies
Bita and the Botflies’ ‘Peklat Cream’ tells the sad reality of domestic violence. This song remains on our Top 10 Songs of the Week because we just love the ironic mix of darkness and light. And we loved it even more with the release of their ‘Peklat Cream’ MV! You really need to watch their MV, it comes complete with a feather boa and toxic masculinity!
And that ends our weekly recap with the songs that made it on our Top 10 Songs of the Week (October 20-26)! Make sure to stay tuned on Monday to check whether your current OPM fave made it to our list!
