It’s not too late to add our Top 10 Songs of the Week (December 15-21) to your playlists!
It’s Friday everyone and that means it’s time for a recap of the songs that made it to our Top 10 Songs of the Week (December 15-21)! As usual, every Friday we give you the full run-down of our Top 10 Songs of the Week. And we know you’re just itching to get your hands on some top-shelf OPM music. So here’s the official line up of the songs that made it on our Top 10 Weekly!
1. Sana Ngayong Pasko by This Band and Sarah Geronimo
The holidays are just a few days away, and so it’s only fitting that the number one song on our Top 10 Songs of the Week is ‘Sana Ngayong Pasko’ by Sarah Geronimo and This Band.
‘Sana Ngayong Pasko’ is a staple Filipino classic that we hear during Christmas and the holidays. It was originally sung by Ariel Rivera and has been covered by several other artists. Including Lea Salonga, Jed Madela, and Sharon Cuneta to name a few. Although Sarah Geronimo has also done her rendition of it, which is equally great. But now collaborating with This Band on ‘Sana Ngayong Pasko’, gives it a depth of dimension with the difference in Andrea Manzano’s textured vocals.
So listen to ‘Sana Nagyong Pasko’ by Sarah Geronimo and This Band. And add it to your Christmas playlists!
2. Make It With You by Ben and Ben
Personally, I grew up listening to songs from the 70s. And one of my parent’s favorites was the American rock-band Bread. So ICYDK, ‘Make It With You’ is actually one of their original songs. And having Ben and Ben cover a classic like this just feels like a full-circle moment for me.
So it appeases our old souls that Ben and Ben did justice to the classic song. And not only did they do justice but we can say that their rendition is on par with that of Bread. Also, did you know that Ben and Ben’s version of ‘Make It With You’ is the OST of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s new TV series on ABS-CBN with the same name?
3. Malinaw Na Malabo Na Tayo by Ely Buendia and Itchyworms
‘Malinaw Na Malabo Na Tayo’ was released just last December 10. And it’s a song about the end of the relationship of two people finally becoming clear. If we were to translate the title, it would be: “It’s clear that we’re over.”
But despite the very depressing story that the song tells, it’s always nice to always be clear in relationships. So if you can relate, give ‘Malinaw Na Malabo Na Tayo’ by Ely Buendia and Itchyworms a listen!
4. Christmas Morning by Brisom and Silent Sanctuary
Another Christmas classic given an updated and hearty beat! This time its ‘Christmas Morning’ by Brisom and Silent Sanctuary.
Their rendition of ‘Christmas Morning’ feels like opening presents on Christmas day, surprising and wonderful! Because who would have thought that these rock bands would give such a gentle song a try. You don’t expect it, making it such a wonderful surprise. So listen to ‘Christmas Morning’ by Brisom and Silent Sanctuary!
5. Atin Ang Gabi by Karacruz
‘Atin Ang Gabi’ by Karacruz is the debut single of the band released just last December 13. So since this is the first time we’ve featured them, let’s get to know them a little bit! Karacruz is a four-piece Filipino alternative pop-rock band. They are composed of Zuki Porlayagan (Vocals and Guitar), Gino Dimaano (Guitar), Jeric Valmonte (Bass), and Liezl Young (Drums).
But don’t underestimate this band just because this is their first single. Just like any good concert, an opening act is crucial to set the hype for the rest of the concert. And that’s what ‘Atin Ang Gabi’ by Karacruz feels like, one heck of a preview for bigger and better songs in the future. So don’t miss out on their first single, ‘Atin Ang Gabi’.
6. Luck by Hey, Billie!
The last time Hey, Billie! was on our Top 10 Songs of the Week it was for their first single, ‘Dilim’. So naturally, their second single entitled ‘Luck’, was bound to be on our list. ‘Luck’ by Hey, Billie! was released just last December 7.
We absolutely love ‘Luck’, because it’s relatable AF! The song is all about falling for the wrong person. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t been there? It’s when you thought you knew everything about a person, and then when you’re in too deep they show their true colors!
7. Ikaw Ang Aking Tahanan by Orange and Lemons
As usual, we can always depend on Orange and Lemons to deliver great songs. And ‘Ikaw Ang Aking Tahanan’ is no exception. It reminds us of old Filipino movies with song numbers, think FPJ movies. In the beginning, we are instantly hit with a fresh beat that gives off a sweet and romantic yet fun vibe.
Overall, Orange and Lemons channeled their “electro-acoustic roots and love for classic indie pop and 80s guitar pop with ample keyboard embellishments.” And making their sound “much sweeter, bigger, and better.” And that’s why ‘Ikaw Ang Aking Tahanan’ by Orange and Lemons remains on our Top 10 Songs of the Week!
8. Fall In Love With You by BRWN and Jannine Weigel
It may sound cliche, but ‘Fall In Love With You’ by BRWN and Jannine Weigel is basically about falling in love unexpectedly. It sounds like the plot of every romantic-comedy film ever made, right? But then again, there’s a reason people still love romantic-comedies. And in the same way, we can’t help but fall in love with this song. Its catchy chorus has us hooked, and all the electro-jazz riffs are just an added bonus.
And besides, it’s the holiday season—this isn’t the time to be cynical. It’s the season to celebrate and spread joy and love. And that’s exactly what ‘Fall In Love With You’ by BRWN and Jannine Weigel is all about, celebrating love when you least expect it.
9. jpnzy by Just Hush and Delly Flay
Just Hush is officially back on our radar! So the last time we’ve featured him here at U Do U was when he collaborated with James Reid on ‘Fiend’. And boy, did that song check our boxes! But now Just Hush is back with a new single along with Delly Flay entitled, ‘jpnzy’.
And it’s all about missing someone, except that someone doesn’t miss you back. And is still hurt and focusing on all the wrong things that happened in your relationship. And yet, that person is still in your mind. Listen to ‘jpnzy’ by Just Hush and Delly Flay if you can’t help but think of that someone too.
10. Hindi Nag-iba by Ivy of PPOP Generation
In the first part of ‘Hindi Nag-iba’, you could clearly hear Ivy’s youth through her cute singing voice. However, her maturity also peeks through when the track takes it up a notch, and it’s really remarkable.
Moreover, it’s wonderful how the song itself talks about a journey of a young heart trying to come up with a mature decision. Somehow, almost all of us have gone through that one way or another, and honestly? Relatable AF.
Add these to your Spotify playlists now!
And that ends our weekly recap with the songs that made it on our Top 10 Songs of the Week (December 8-14)!
