In a world that is beautiful yet scary at the same time, Quan Bay gives us a glimpse of touching story through their new single!
From giving us their previous singles, Metromania and Maker, Quan Bay releases another masterpiece via Singapore based indie label Umami Records on Friday, 27 March.
Quan Bay is a Toronto-based indie dream pop / R&B duo who write and produce their own music, delivering a unique blend of dream pop and alternative R&B. Often they combined their genre with classical elements from their Indian and Vietnamese roots. Quan Bay comprises Aniruddha Borah, a singer-songwriter/producer from Assam, India, and singer-songwriter Tamara Therese, a Toronto native.
“My parents were refugees from the Vietnam War. It’s hard to settle into a new country where you don’t speak the language, don’t have any friends, and barely a penny to your name.”, expressed Tamara.
The Canadian Based duo releases ‘Miss Saigon’ that tells about their personal experience as a child of Vietnam War refugees. The song is about the story of an immigrant mother who had struggled in missing and thinking of her child. The song kicked off with cherry melodies, accompanied a traditional Indian folk instrument that they often used in wedding festivities called Dholak. The intro of the song giving us a tease of the song’s theme of struggle and loneliness but upon playing the song it unveils optimism, hopes and dreams like everything we could have despite life’s hardships.
“The experiences, sacrifices, and learnings passed on from our parents helped bring this song together. As you listen, we hope that you sympathize that all around the world, people are changing constantly in search of a better life which is both beautiful and super scary at the same time.” she stated.
You can wait for the debut of their album, ‘Stay like this Forever’ this 2020. 2020. We can expect a fusion of the music as both Aniruddha and Tamara grew up listening to, and an expression of navigating the years of one’s mid-20s. Aren’t this duo too perfect in their craft, right? Their debut album will be also released under Umami Records, a Singapore-based indie record label founded in 2013.
