So, that’s it: Ms. Taylor just dropped everything now.

Gone are the days of TSwift’s carefully plotted promotional tactics. On Thursday, July 24, the American singer-songwriter shook up the internet when, all of a sudden, without so much as a prior hint, she posted an announcement that she was to release her 8th studio album at the stroke of midnight today. The surprise announcement comes with two photos: one of Swift standing along in a desolate forest and the other a letter to her fans.

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening,” she began, most probably talking about her canceled tour for her 2019 album, ‘Lover.’ “But there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen.”

That “something” is Folklore [stylized in all lower case], her brand new album which, as the music superstar puts it, is a collection of “of songs [she’s] poured all of [her] whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.” Apparently, this is what the Miss Americana star has been busying herself with during isolation.

It’s out now!

Having given fans less than 24 hours to prepare, Taylor Swift released ‘Folklore’ today via Republic Records. It’s a sixteen-track collection of songs demonstrating the wild turn Swift has taken in her musical direction, made with the help of her “musical heroes.”

Eleven of the songs were produced or co-written by The National’s guitarist, Arron Dessner. Swift co-wrote the others with Jack Antonoff and William Bowery. The album also features a collaboration with indie-folk superstar Bon Iver titled, ‘exile.’

And as if the surprise album is not overwhelming enough, shortly after the release, Swift also launched the music video for folklore’s second track, ‘cardigan‘.’

folklore is out now across digital streaming platforms worldwide, including Spotify. Feel free to stream the album below!
