From a vengeful snake to a graceful butterfly. A new era awaits us as ME! by Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie takes us to a new world of self-love.
A few days ago, Taylor Swift shook the world with a cryptic countdown for a surprise. Fans were utterly hyped because it has been so long since she’s released something new. Reputation is still fresh in our minds and ingrained in our soul. But as soon as she dropped the headliner for her 7th album, everyone got caught off guard. Taylor’s newest track ‘ME!’ with Panic! At The Disco frontman, Brendon Urie showed us a new era of Taylor’s music this time.
In ‘ME!’, Taylor teaches us a quick lesson about self-love, confidence, and individuality. Taylor definitely captured the essence of self-love. According to Taylor, having a pop song celebrating individuality and owning it is much better on all levels. Taylor says things how hard she is to handle which a lot can relate to. But she goes on saying that there’s nobody like her. It speaks volumes to someone’s confidence of how she is, despite her flaws and imperfections.
Pop songs tend to stick around for so long, being all upbeat and catchy. Because of its melody, ‘ME!’ can get stuck into your head and it’s nothing but cathartic to want to feel better about yourself. For so long, Taylor has been an advocate of self-love. And this must be a step of showing her fans that there’s nothing wrong in knowing your self-worth.
In a similar manner, ‘ME!’ is the epitome of Taylor’s journey in discovering her self-worth in a relationship with Joe Alwyn for almost two years now. While in her Reputation album, Taylor talks about the scrutiny and judgments she got for her fame. How it affected her personal life, including her relationship with her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. In some songs like Gorgeous and Delicate, which are both clear dedications to Joe, showed her hesitance and doubt to herself. But in ME!, she showed how powerful she is as an individual. Makes me wanna be just as strong and independent as Taylor as she is now.
Music Video and Brendon Urie
Okay, this collaboration is something we didn’t ask for but we definitely needed, right? Brendon Urie’s from the different side of music, being the frontman of the iconic Panic! At The Disco. But the combination of their voices is astoundingly perfect. No one expected Brendon to be singing pop songs out of the blue but heck, he delivered that so damn well. Even with the genre differences, their voices compliment each other.
As for the music video, it’s full of imagery and symbolism. Take the snake turning into colorful butterflies as an example. It clearly represents Taylor’s transition from Reputation era to her new colorful album. There’s a whole lot of references hidden in every corner of the music video. The whole feel of the music video is light and colorful. It’s basically a collision of rainbows and unicorns in some sense. But most importantly, it fits the theme of self-love. Learning to love yourself means seeing life in different colors, not just in black and white.
Anyway, I’m sure you definitely loved ‘ME!’ by Taylor Swift so stream it on Spotify now!
