Inner desires are often unsaid. But what if it’s made into a music video? Well, thankfully the ‘Matikaman’ MV by JKLRD feat. J. $wish is an answered prayer for us. Find out more here:

On Saturday, Filipino hip-hop artist JKLRD dropped the music video for his song, ‘Matikman’. But before we head on to discuss the MV, let’s first find out what the song is about.

Featuring J. $wish, ‘Matikman’ shows two sides of a story–a person longing for the sweet life and the other one who already has a taste of it. JKLRD taking in the first persona he shows the struggle of day-to-day life and the sacrifices he had to make in order for a “better” life.

Nakahiga sa kama na puno ng pera
Yan ang buhay na gusto kong matikman
Yan ang gusto kong matikman (2x)
Alak at sariwang hangin
Ng nagbabagang papel
Yan ang gusto kong matikman (2x)

At least meron akong sinugal kesa
Walang ginawa
Parang batang naka ngiti parin
Kahit na nakadapa

All the while, in J. $wish’s verse, he acts as the guy who’s already at the peak of his success.

He goes on to say: “I know you mad when you see us rollin’
Ball in the club, gettin’ shots and we pourin’
I let her get into my zone, she explorin’
You know I don’t wanna drive unless it’s foreign”

What’s the MV about?

Given that this is the interpretation, the music video perfectly portrays what JKLRD and J. $wish meant. We see them both as janitors of a hotel wanting to become rich. That’s why they devised a plan to hijack a rich man’s room and take a ride of the high roll life. But this fleeting moment can’t change reality. At the end of the video, we see them go back to their normal lives and act as if nothing happened.
