If you admire Barack Obama as a political figure, you’re gonna admire him more for his extensive music taste.
On August 18, Tuesday, the former president of the United States took to Twitter to share the songs and artists he’s been bopping with all summer. If you didn’t know, this is a “favorite tradition” of Obama, curating a playlist and sharing it with the world.
In his post, he reveals that he’s been listening to music with his family over the past few months, which goes to show that part of his quarantine routine is expanding his musical know-how.
“Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family. I wanted to share some of my favorites from the summer –– including songs from some of the artists performing at this week’s @DemConvention,” he wrote on social media.
“As always, it’s a mix of genres that travels through various eras. I think there’s something in here for everybody––hope you enjoy it.”
Obama’s 2020 playlist contains over 50 songs encompassing a wide spectrum of genres from pop to rock to country and hip-hop. It includes Billie Eilish’s latest single, “My Future,” and J Blavin’s “UN DIA” featuring Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and Tainy.
Rihanna, Drake, H.E.R., Outkast, Maggie Rogers, Nina Simone, and Frank Ocean also made it to the list among many others. Some classics from Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder are also there. Obama is basically a dad with the taste of a Gen Z.
Jennifer Hudson, Billie Eilish, Leon Bridges, The Chicks, and Common are the artists in the playlist who will be performing at this week’s nominating convention, which begins Monday and culminates on Thursday, Aug. 20. Joe Biden, Obama’s former VP, is set to be named as the Democrats’ presidential pick.
