Filipino-American singer-actress Olivia Rodrigo debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her hit single, ‘Drivers License.’

Although it was only released on January 8, the track was quick to surge in popularity, thanks to TikTok and also to Olivia’s background as a Disney star. You heard it right! If you didn’t know, the teenager initially made herself known by starring in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark in 2016 and Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019. From acting, she ventured into making music when she signed a deal with Interscope Records and Geffen Records in 2020. And then a year later, ‘Drivers License’ was born.

Shortly after Drivers License was released on various platforms, the song broke a series of records. It currently holds the record for the most single-day stream on Spotify, an astounding feat made even more amazing by the fact that it was achieved only four days after its launch. Moreover, the single saw the biggest first-week for a song on both Spotify and Amazon.

The track currently holds the top spot on Billboard Hot 100, a US-based music chart that ranks songs from all genres according to radio airplay and sales data.

“My first song ‘drivers license’ came out about a week ago. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect all of this support. This morning the Billboard charts came out and ‘drivers license’ debuted as number one in the world! it broke all these records too!” Olivia wrote on social media.

Drivers License is an atmospheric power ballad built around the sounds of piano, kick drums, and strings. Fans of Olivia are praising the track for its brilliant songwriting and its ability to get them crying over a person who doesn’t exist. Yes, that’s how powerful this song is. Even Taylor Swift, aka the master of narrative songwriting, is vibing with it, commenting on Olivia’s IG post with the words, “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud.”
