There’s nothing wrong with giving up. And here are some reasons why:
Today, our culture gives so much emphasis on perseverance. And you’d often hear phrases like “Quitters are losers” or “You won’t get anywhere if you quit.” Well, it’s understandable why society keeps on pushing us this quality because it’s a great one! You can accomplish so many great things by putting yourself out there and making an effort.
But you know what? Sometimes giving up is exactly what we should do. May it be from your relationships, goals, or hobbies. Don’t get us wrong though, because people have this negative connotation that “giving up” automatically means you’re a “failure”. But it’s not always like that. Because sometimes, our willingness to fight for everything or simply, our inability to let go, is what keeps us from moving forward and basically, from finding happiness.
So don’t worry if you ever find yourself re-evaluating the things you want to do because here are 3 times when it’s a-okay to be a quitter:
#1 When you can have greater things
Here’s the sad and painful truth of life. Sometimes things aren’t just meant to be. But it doesn’t mean all of your hardships will go to waste because we can learn important life lessons out of these situations. And as what we’ve said, it’s the thought of letting a big chance go that we can’t accept defeat, but we need to know there are greater things ahead of us that we haven’t realized yet. All it takes is one leap of faith.
#2 When you’re worried about what others will say
If the thought of people criticizing you for giving up scares you, you have to remember that it’s YOUR life. So don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for living it the way you want to.
#3 When you’re not happy anymore
Dreams are great things to have no matter how small or big they are. But once you’ve reached your limit, there’s no more point to it right? In the first place, our dreams are manifestations of what we need to have happy lives. For instance, a healthy relationship or a stable career. So in the end, it’s how something makes you feel alive that makes it worth your while. But if it doesn’t, don’t be afraid to let go.
When you’ve finally let go of all the things that are burdening your heart, that’s when you’ll feel relieved. And that’s what’s important. So if you feel like it’s all too much, take a step back and give yourself time to realize WHAT YOU REALLY WANT. Try not to think of “giving up” as a bad thing. Rather, it’s a well-deserved break from our efforts. And let’s all remember, that one of the bravest things we could do despite all the pain and hardships is to wake up and try again.
