It’s no secret that Harry Potter star Rupert Grint looks eerily like singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. This was even addressed before in Ed Sheeran’s music video for “Lego House”. In the video, Rupert played a look-alike fan who was obsessed with the singer.  Recently though, MTV’s YouTube channel uploaded a skit where Rupert Grint admits that Ed Sheeran was just a character he made.

“After Potter, all I wanted to do was stretch myself, create some real magic, so I created a character. He’d have the voice of an angel, impossibly wispy facial hair, so I bought a guitar and a bunch of flannel, and I called him Ed, Ed Sheeran,” Rupert confesses. He then continues to say, “I just didn’t expect everyone to think he was real. He became my greatest activity and the bane of my existence… I can’t balance anymore. To stay forward, Ed is no more!”

Rupert the Sorbetero

We always knew from his days as Ron Weasley that Rupert has a great sense of humor. His first purchase with his Harry Potter riches was an ice cream truck. He drives that around town and gives free ice cream to kids, and when one asks him if he’s Ron Weasley, he’d just say, “It’s strange, I get asked that a lot.”

A day before the MTV skit was uploaded, Yahoo! Celebrity’s Facebook page posted a video joking about the resemblance between the two. Their crew had Rupert Grint do a dramatic reading of Ed Sheeran’s hit song, “Shape of You”.  At first, Rupert was totally serious, but later on he could barely keep in his laughter.

And how does Ed Sheeran feel about all this? Well, it seems like he’s enjoying the joke as well. He retweeted the MTV skit, and even called Rupert a lad.
