There may never be a shortage of unique places to go to find obscure music in Manila. Here are our top picks on where to spend your next night out to find some obscure underground music scene.

Poblacion’s newest multitasking space called Dulo MNL is a café morning to midnight, a restobar after six, an art hub and events venue 24/7. DULO has been known to cater to the LGBT audience when they held a GayPerView event on the show Ru Paul’s Drag Race but they are open to all creative pursuits, for artists who are all uncensored and unfiltered. That’s why they certainly have established their image to the underground music scene.

The bar is 20:20 but the club is XX XX, both pronounced twenty-twenty. The place is so obscure that you have to actually ask around to find it, which is hidden on the side of a bunch of warehouses along Chino Roces Avenue, Pasong Tamo, Makati. This hidden gem offers Beatmakers, DJs and live bands from time to time. The place has quite an industrial design, keeping the warehouse’s bare concrete floors and exposed roofing, the DJ booth just the bare essentials to prop up the equipments.

Mow’s may not be a stranger to one of the more popular gig places in the metro, but depending on the event, they surely will not fail to deliver to you a wild headbangin’ kind of night. Staying true to the Underground-ness of the music scene, the place is literally underground, like the basement of the huge Kowloon House in Matalino Street, Quezon City.

Today X Future

Smacked in the middle of 2 pawnshops in General Malvar Ave. in Cubao City. It is a hole in the wall concept bar and one of the unique bars you’d see in Metro Manila. Although the place is small, dark, cramped up, and lit by cheap led Christmas lights, every corner feels like an art installation, even in the 2nd floor where they have a little botique/ukay ukay. This just provides an overall ambiance that gives you a more authentic Manila feel.
