Living away from the family is one of the greatest and most exciting adventures that one can have. However, we should keep in mind that with great freedom comes greater responsibility. If you are planning to stay alone for even a little while, you  need to ensure that you are safe. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you will have to miss out on all the fun. There are some aspects you will need to keep in mind if you plan to have fun, stay alone and stay safe.

Here are five tips for you to follow if you plan to stay alone:

  • Research Your Neighborhood

The first mistake anyone planning to live alone does is decide where to live depending on their budget. Of course, the budget plays a very, very big role in this decision, but that doesn’t mean that it is the only aspect. Make sure that you live in an area that has the supermarket, the hospital, other services that you’d need are nearby. If these aren’t, it’s better to look for another place or even wait for a couple of months or years before you can move on and move in.

  • Make a Budget and Stick to It

Living alone means having your own discipline and not tripping from it – even when nobody’s looking. So, make sure to eke out a budget and stick to it. That extra burger might seem nothing during that enjoyable evening, but too many of those in a month and you won’t know where your milk money disappeared. So, make sure that you set out a budget and stay on it – throughout the entire duration that you intend to stay away from the house.

Some More Important Tips:

  • Prepare a Nestegg

Our parents survived because of nesteggs, not because of their monthly salary that ended coming to thier banj accounts a while ago. You require a nestegg anyway, and definitely require it if you are living alone. Medical emergencies, a spike in the electricity bill, so on and so forth. You will need to ensure that all this doesn’t create issues with your finances. The only way of doing this is preparing a nestegg early in the day.

  • Make Friends, But Be Wary of Information Shared

No, we are not living in a horror/slasher movie and everyone is not out to  kill you. But give too much of information about yourself and someone who wishes to will find you all the more easier to locate. So, make friends, but don’t give out too much of information about yourself. Keep friends at a hand’s distance at all times. Remember, it takes years to build confidence. Let those who want be your friends get to that stage the hard way instead of the simpler one.
