For some of us, the “happiest season of the year” may be the loneliest. But it doesn’t mean having ourselves as our only company can’t be fun. Find out more here:
There’s a certain Christmas tradition that many people look forward to and that is kissing your special someone under the mistletoe. But for others, they can only dream of it because–well–they have no one to do it to. Here in the Philippines, we call them the ‘Samahan ng Malalamig ang Pasko’ (SMP). Basically, they’re the people whose Christmas will be pretty cold since no one would keep them warm at night.
So if you’re single or part of the SMP club and you’re kinda lost on how to spend this holiday, feel free to check out our easy survival guide here:
Spend time with someone you love and that doesn’t mean you should get a boyfriend/girlfriend
Admit it, sometimes finding the guy or gal to spend Christmas with can get over our heads because of all the lovey-dovey couples around us. But in reality, this time of year is dedicated to the people who have been there for us since day one and those people are none other than our families. So instead of drowning yourself with the thought of needing a boyfriend or girlfriend to make you happy this Christmas, sit down, reminisce, and just enjoy the day with people who will truly love you.
Eat, eat, eat
What is Christmas without the delicious food for noche buena? Can you smell the lumpiang shanghai, Christmas ham, and crispy pata? Go ahead and eat as much you would like! Again, Christmas is a season wherein love should go around and your tummy is no exception! So what if you’re single? At least your stomach is full!

Go on a self-dedicated shopping spree
When you’re single on Christmas, you don’t have to worry about impressing your special someone. Rather than spending money, why don’t you just use it on yourself? Been planning to buy that cute dress you’ve seen in the mall? Buy it! Eyeing a new keyboard for your gaming needs? Buy it! There’s no better feeling than rewarding yourself after doing a good job this year!
Pass on the love
On a more serious note, so what if you don’t have someone to kiss under the mistletoe? Well, not everyone on Christmas is fortunate enough to have a roof over their heads, food in their stomachs, or clothes to keep them warm. ‘Tis the season to also pass our blessings to people who need them the most. A little kindness goes a long way, big or small.
There’s a connotation that SMPs are somewhat “lonely”. Although it’s somewhat true, some really choose to stay single in the most wonderful time of the year for many reasons. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t having fun by only having themselves as company. We’re pretty much sure you’d be enjoying yourself too with these helpful tips of ours! So what are you waiting for?
What do you think of this survival guide for those a part of the ‘Samahan ng Malalamig ang Pasko’ (SMP)? And are you one yourself? And if yes, how do you get through this holiday season?
