Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! But before we officially say hello to 2020, we need to go through everything you need to leave behind in 2019! And no Chad, we ain’t bringing any toxic masculinity with us!
In the famous words of Semisonic, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” And in the same way, 2020 officially marks the beginning of a new decade but also marks the end of one. But we mustn’t dwell on the endings, but look forward to the beginning of a new era. And with that, there are just some things you shouldn’t bring with you in 2020. After all, we need to start fresh, right? So here’s everything you need to leave behind in 2019!
So I’m not sure if this is glaringly obvious or not, but you should definitely leave your 2019 regrets in 2019! Your new beginning shouldn’t be tainted with the regrets of the past. And if you just can’t seem to leave it behind, you should focus on resolving those regrets in 2020. So you don’t enter 2020 with regrets lingering in your mind. Instead, re-configure your mindset with a sense of purpose. And aim for resolving those regrets instead.
Now this one may be difficult, since breaking bad habits doesn’t happen overnight. But as Confucius once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” And again, we are brought back to the point that simply entering 2020 with a sense of purpose is enough for now. So all you really have to do is try, and to never stop trying. So whatever big or small bad habit it may be like smoking or nail-biting, aim to leave it behind in 2019. Because 2020 should be spent on forming good habits instead.
I cannot stress this sentiment enough: It’s okay to cut people off. Especially if they don’t contribute anything positive in your life. But instead, surround you with negativity. Because nothing should keep you from entering 2020 with peace of mind. So if you’re having second thoughts about creating some distance with a specific toxic person, here’s a little tip. I want you to picture yourself lying in bed at the end of a tiring day. And to ask yourself, how different would you feel if you didn’t have to deal with their toxicity?
Overall, these only act as a guideline for everything you need to leave behind in 2019. At the end of the day, all this does is help you to reassess your mindset to cast aside things that may hinder your joy in the new decade. So here’s to you, and to a chance at new beginnings!
