Days before the Miss Universe coronation night Mak Tumang revealed some details about Catriona’s evening gowns.
Tumang’s gowns for Catriona are inspired by Philippine culture. They were given so much effort from multiple people and cost more than P1 million! It is evident that he put his heart and soul into these Philippine fashion treasures!
The Mayon Gown (Fiery and Lovely Perfection)

Mak Tumang, the most famous designer in the Philippines today, made another masterpiece that Catriona Gray gave justice to on the Miss Universe stage. The Mayon gown!
The outstanding model, Catriona, heated up IMPACT arena during the evening gown segment of the grand coronation night wearing this phenomenal gown.

The glamorous and sexy evening gown was inspired by the well-known Mayon Volcano. It is also an homage to the now Miss Universe 2018’s home in Albay.

Mayon Volcano is located in Albay, Bicol region. It is famous for its perfect cone shape and it being the most active stratovolcano in the Philippines. According to a Filipino folklore, the beautiful volcano was named after a mythical character named Daragang Magayon (Beautiful lady).
Tumang said that Catriona can be considered as the modern day Daragang Magayon since “She embodies the Filipina’s beauty, intelligence, and burning passion. This lady is definitely on fire! Watch her erupt right before your very eyes and let the lava of grace, goodness and hope flow.” said the talented designer.
The Lava Effect

Mak Tumang wanted to create a lava effect on the gown to fully represent the famous volcano and Catriona’s burning passion to win the crown.
The fabric used for the Mayon gown was digitally printed and then hand-studded with Swarovski Crystals. It has a bare-back, side cut-out, and a high slit.
The creative genius created a cream of the crop gown that will for sure mark a spot in the minds of every fashion aficionados and pageant enthusiasts. He was definitely successful in encapsulating Philippine culture and Filipino talent in the Mayon dress. Kudos to your workmanship, Mak. More power to you and the Philippine fashion industry!
