Video Games have been a staple of our generation. It holds a lot of defining moments throughout the years. Here is a list of those defining moments. SPOILER ALERT! Some of these moments are the endings of some games, you’ve been warned.

Love it or hate it, Fortnite is one of the games that everyone played. The Marshmello Concert defined the generation on how gaming can intertwine with other pop culture. It is a live concert by the American Dj Marshmello within the game.
9. Train Sequence – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
The Uncharted series is one of those games that defined the Adventure genre in gaming. It is like controlling Indiana Jones and exploring caves, fighting bad guys, finding lost treasures, and many more. This sequence in Uncharted is very well thought out by the game developers. The attention to detail is very promising, backgrounds are changing and the movement of every character will leave you in awe of how well they made this sequence.
8. You Died – Soulsborne series (2009 – )
Dying in a game is very irritating right? But when you’re playing a souls game it is very natural. Dark Souls is a very hard game that tests the patience of the player. The game was infamous for the hard gameplay and the death screen always showing up. This feature does not hinder the players to stop playing the game, instead, they respawn and come back stronger with new tactics to defeat the enemy they’re facing.
7. New Donk City Celebration – Super Mario Odyssey (2017)
I still remember playing Super Mario on an old gaming console with a small TV with my family and we’re all just having fun. Super Mario is a legend, every gamer knows this red-hatted plumber guy. It’s been decades since Super Mario was released and they became 2D to 3D. This particular moment gave tribute to how Super Mario started. From these humble beginnings to a game with amazing graphics and a legacy to be played for generations to come.
6. The Village Attacks – Resident Evil 4 (2005)
The Resident Evil series is known for its unique take on zombies in games. Resident Evil 4 changed the phase on how they look at zombies. This particular moment at the beginning of the game is portrayed by the protagonist talking to one of the enemies and searching for the girl he will save. Then the intensity rises when the other enemies go out of their houses with pitchforks and chainsaws. This is the perfect moment to set up the mood on how the game will play out.
5. By The Book – Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
Grand Theft Auto is famous for its very vulgar words and brutal gameplay but still, gamers are enjoying this game because why not right? Through the times they developed their gameplay and graphics, from a 2D top-down game to 3D and more realistic gameplay. This particular sequence in the game where you will torture a person to get information from him caused a lot of issues around the world. But this very bold move of the developers, Rockstar Games, made them more known for how bold they are.
4. Joel’s Lie – The Last of Us (2013)
The Last of Us took the gaming community by storm with amazing graphics, amazing storytelling, and very unique gameplay. The journey of Ellie and Joel throughout the entire game made them very inseparable. So the dilemma of choosing to save the world or save the person that you treat as your family is very hard. Joel lied to Ellie about what really happened. It left the gamers with a lot to discuss if the decision made by Joel is the right or wrong one.
3. White Phosphorus Bomb – Spec Ops: The Line (2012)
Spec Ops: The Line is one of those games that depict what is war, not just the action but also the decisions they make during war. In this particular scene, the protagonist orders their team to strike a bomb in a certain area. This makes you think if what you’re doing is right or wrong, The white phosphorus is an illegal chemical weapon. After the bombing the game shows you the place where you detonated the bomb, in an unfortunate turn of events you bombed the enemy but also a civilian camp where a lot of innocent people died. This makes the player question what is right or wrong.
2. Would you Kindly – Bioshock (2007)
Bioshock is a First Person Shooter game that involves thrilling mysteries, shocking revelations, and an amazing storyline. Bioshock is one of those that defined the fps horror genre. This game has the biggest plot twist that has been known for decades. You think that you’re surviving alone and controlling your own actions but the twist is that you’re brainwashed to kill the wrong person and kill the good guys which makes you the real bad guy. The words “Would You Kindly” is your trigger to reset your brain on what they wanted. This moment defined how amazing a game can tell a story that will define gaming in general.
1. The Nuke – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2016)
The Call Of Duty series is very known for its First Person Shooter that depicts war by being in the shoes of a character that is trying to save or survive the war. You will hear in the background that a Nuke has been detonated in the area and you will see the explosion followed by a blackout. When you open your eyes all you can see are the ashes and the damage caused by the bomb and a huge mushroom cloud. This defined gaming storytelling in a big manner and game developers not only think about the game but also about how they will tell a story that keeps the player engaged.
