There have been lots of rumors surrounding the sixth installment in the GTA series, most of which allude to the fact that it’s going to be unlike any other game in Rockstar’s wildly popular open-world franchise.

One of the latest tittle-tattles that fans have been chewing over is the alleged inclusion of a female lead character which, if proven to be accurate, would be a first in the franchise’s 24-year history. This claim was made by Tom Henderson, known in the gaming community as a dependable industry insider. Taking to Twitter, Henderson wrote that GTA 6 will feature a playable female and male protagonist for the first time ever in a GTA title.

While Henderson has proven himself to be reliable when it comes to game leaks– particularly with his Call of Duty scoops– his recent claim about GTA 6 would be best taken with a grain of salt. For one, the guy did not disclose any source of his information. Second, Rockstar Games hasn’t shown any bit of interest in confirming nor debunking the rumor, and it’s very likely it will stay that way.

However, if GTA 6 would indeed introduce a female lead, many fans would be pleased especially those who, despite their generally positive reception of the game, had noticed how the game’s treatment of its female characters was lacking in depth– the same narrative flaw critics have found in the previous titles. If the rumor turns out to be true, then it means Rockstar Games is trying to be better in terms of inclusivity, and as fans who grew up with the series, we’re all looking forward to that.
