The Pokemon Company and pop superstar Katy Perry are joining forces for Pokemon’s upcoming year-long celebration of its anniversary.
This is not the first time the ‘Fireworks’ hitmaker gets involved in a video game. Remember when Katy performed a Simlish version of her smash hit ‘Last Friday Night’ for The Sims? Yep, that song, while being completely made out of gibberish, never left our memory.
This time, Katy Perry is teaming up with Pokemon for the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Their collaboration is expected to be the highlight of ‘P25 Music,’ a star-studded campaign that will feature a series of musical events. P25 will be showcasing “rising artists to award-winning global superstars” whose identities are yet to be revealed.
Perry, who’s a lifelong fan of Pokemon herself, will be the one headlining the events. In a statement the singer told PEOPLE, she shared that she “loves being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world.” Perry also adds, “Now having a child myself, I understand that it’s so important to play. This is a continued extension of who I am.”
While not too many details have been revealed about the anniversary aside from a teaser video which you can watch below, the Pokemon Company will be hosting activations across the world celebrating the franchise’s legacy when it comes to video games and anime. As previously mentioned, the Pokemon party will be one year long, so expect your 2021 to be filled with exciting Pokemon programs.
