Now we’ll get to know more about the character that popularized the line, “My precious!”
After acquiring the rights to make games based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic fantasy novel series, developer and publisher Daedalic Entertainment announced in May last year the next official The Lord of the Rings game.
Titled ‘The Lord of the Rings: Gollum,’ it serves as a prequel to the movie series and explores the life of Gollum– originally known as Sméagol. He was a hobbit who got corrupted by the One Ring hence his transformation into Gollum.
“The Lord of the Rings is one of the most epic and renowned stories of all time – it’s an honour for us to have the opportunity to work on our own contribution to this universe,” shared Carsten Fichtelmann, CEO and Co-Founder of Daedalic Entertainment, when the game was first announced.
“In Gollum, players will assume the role of one of the most iconic characters in Middle-earth. We tell Gollum’s story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium, all the while staying true to the legendary books of J.R.R. Tolkien.”
Since the initial announcement, not too many details about the game have been released. But back in May this year, Daedalic Entertainment published several screenshots showing their adaptation of Tolkien’s legendary fantasy universe and Gollum in action.

First official trailer, out now!
Today, the creators dropped the first cinematic teaser trailer for the upcoming title. Establishing the game’s dark atmosphere, the trailer shows a smaller (and cuter) version of Gollum crawling out of a cave and emerging to see Mount Doom currently in an eruptive state. It confirms that the narrative will follow Gollum and will be told from his perspective.
‘The Lord of the Rings: Gollum‘ is set to launch sometime in 2021 for PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. Watch the trailer below!
