Wild Rift players, now is your chance to show the world what you’ve got!
The League of Legends: Wild Rift scene continues to thrive in the Philippines. With that, Riot Games, in partnership with Mineski and PPGL, is on the lookout for teams to compete with one another via a nationwide tournament.
Mineski, the largest Esports organization in Southeast Asia, announced a whopping P10M prize pool that awaits the winners of the tournament, which officially kicks off in April this year. It will be hosted by PPGL– short for Philippine Pro Gaming League.
The series of tournaments will be divided into two parts: the Summer Split and Fall Split, with a P5M prize money allocated to each season. Both seasons begin with open qualifiers to be held in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Mineski-PPGL opted for massive open qualifiers instead of inviting teams, as they want to judge players by “pure skill.” Winners of the regional cups will then proceed to the Group Stage, where a point system will be implemented to determine who will advance to the playoffs.
In the point system, one point is equivalent to one peso. Points collected by teams at the end of each split are convertible into cash. Points won by teams will depend on their placing after every open league. After the playoffs, the top two reigning teams will join the Super Cup finals, where they’ll have to go up against the best Wild Rift teams in Southeast Asia.
Wild Rift is the mobile version of the hit PC game League of Legends. Similar to the base game, it’s a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) where players control a “Champion” and work together as a team to destroy a structure called “Nexus” located in the enemy’s base. While it’s relatively younger compared to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, and other already established MOBA titles in mobile gaming, many players are switching to this modified LoL for the simple reason that they find it superior in many aspects like gameplay mechanics, graphics, and hero balance.
