Take a trip down memory lane as the SEGA Genesis Mini brings back our favorite classic 16 bit games!

With our classic consoles making a comeback this time around, SEGA makes sure not to miss this one out. During E3 or the Electronic Entertainment Expo, SEGA announced the official release of SEGA Genesis Mini on September 19, 2019.

And surely, they’ve secured the win this time in the classic console war. Because unlike other redesigned classic consoles, the SEGA Genesis Mini will recreate the whole classic retro game experience. From the graphics, animations, sounds, and glitches and some features of the original games.

SEGA Genesis Mini

SEGA Genesis Mini is a dedicated video game console, a pocket edition of the famous classic SEGA Genesis. The retro mini console aims to recreate the nostalgic and remarkable gaming experience from the past for both seasoned and new players.

It will emulate SEGA Genesis’ 16-bit hardware and 42 pre-installed games. The Mini is redesigned to half the size of the original console. It will include 2 full-size replica USB-connected controllers, with SEGA’s signature 3-button layout. Aside from that, it will also have a USB-to-Micro-B power cable and an HDMI video cable. So you can patch it up to your Smart TVs or gaming rig monitors for that full gaming experience!

As for the games, the SEGA Genesis Mini will include 42 games. 40 of them will come from the original’s era. It will include several of the classic SEGA favorites such as Castlevania: Bloodlines, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter II and Yu Yu Hakusho Makyō Tōitsusen. On the other hand, the other 2 games will be Darius and Tetris, never-released games of the original SEGA Genesis.

The games will feature a “saved state” option that will allow players to pause and resume progress. Not only that, you can also play them either the original 4:3 ratio or cropped 16:9 widescreen!

The SEGA Genesis Mini costs USD $79.90, which is around just Php 4,590! Definitely a great deal for a portable console with 2 controllers and loaded with 42 games. Preorders for the retro mini console have already started for select gaming retail outlets. Online preorders will commence once it’s near the date of the launch.
