Heads up, Summoners! League of Legends is coming to your mobile phones soon, courtesy of Riot Games and Tencent!

According to reports, Riot Games is collaborating with the Chinese tech company, Tencent in building a League of Legends mobile version. And so far, the project is already underway but it won’t be released anytime soon.

Riot Games and Tencent had been partners for so long now. Ever since Tencent bought shares from Riot Games. However, the relationship between the two companies had been strained for quite a while. It started after Riot rejected the proposal of Tencent to create a mobile version of League of Legends.

Even as a popular and successful desktop game, League of Legends still has yet to entirely capture the whole Asia Pacific. Unlike in European countries and in America, LoL has been always at the top. But Tencent wants to capitalize the accessibility of mobile games which Asians prefer, thus proposing to water down League to a simpler version.

However, with the rejection they got, Tencent developed “Honour of Kings” for China. And it has become one of the world’s highest grossing multiplayer online battle arena game. In return, Riot Games develop their own MOBA for mobile phones, which is Arena of Valor. But despite their attempt to compete with it, it wasn’t successful as they expected.

But it looks like this time, the mobile version will be possible. According to reports from Reuters, Riot Games and Tencent have come to terms to develop the mobile version once and for all. Apparently, it might have been that they’ve been working on it for over a year now. Which means, it’s just a matter of time till it gets released in the market.

Both companies declined to release any statements or comments about the collaboration. But it has been speculated that since it’s a water-downed version of League of Legends, it will only feature so much. Champions might be limited, as well as the item variation. Both champions, their skills, and item usage might have to be re-designed to work better in a mobile version setting.

The mobile version of League of Legends will most likely bring in a surge of Asian players. There are no details yet when it will be released.
