Remember the game where your mission is to kill all of humanity with a deadly disease? A new game mode in the works will allow you to save mankind from one.
For the past and present players of Plague Inc, an eight-year-old pandemic strategy simulation game, the COVID-19 situation may feel a little reminiscent. In fact, as the world struggles to contain the spread of this deadly disease, Plague Inc. is also on a surge in popularity due to its timely gameplay.
Now, Ndemic Creations, the developers behind this popular game is working on a new mode where players must do the opposite: save mankind from a spreading deadly virus.
In an announcement made by Ndemic, they stated that they have been working with the help of World Health Organization and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network. They also said that “players will have to balance managing disease progression and boosting healthcare systems as well as controlling real-world actions such as triaging, quarantining, social distancing, and closing of public services.”

Furthermore, Ndemic disclosed that it donated $250,000 to the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and the World Health Organization COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Plague Inc. creator James Vaughan said:
“Eight years ago, I never imagined the real world would come to resemble a game of Plague Inc. or that so many players would be using Plague Inc. to help them get through an actual pandemic.”
“We are proud to be able to help support the vital work of the WHO and CEPI as they work towards finding a vaccine for COVID-19.”
The new game mode will be free-to-play for everyone. A release date hasn’t been announced, yet.
