Sony has officially announced it, the new ‘PlayStation 5’ will hit stores by the end of 2020! Just in time for the holidays!
After numerous leaks and speculations, PlayStation has finally officially made an announcement regarding the PlayStation 5! On their official blog, it said:
“Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.”
They posted this just yesterday on October 8, but fans have already taken to the internet to ask some questions about the PlayStation 5. We did a previous article, regarding what is it we’ll most likely see from the new console. And today, we’ll just be confirming and adding to that. As well as answering some common questions we found online about the PlayStation 5.
All the features!
Just to recap here are all the known and confirmed features that the PlayStation 5 will have:
- 4k Blu-ray drive that is capable to read 100GB optical discs.
- A new controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
- AMD Ryzen CPU, AMD Navi GPU, and it will now use an SSD.
- An all-new UI and game installation system that lets players hand-pick what parts to install.
- Eco-friendly, and will consume less power than any previous console.
- Backward compatibility with PS4 games.
So they decided to stick with PlayStation 5, huh?
We’re actually pretty glad that they just decided to call it PlayStation 5. I mean, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it, right? We would be fairly upset and a bit peeved if they suddenly jumped to, let’s say PlayStation X or Max, and Pro. Just like some other big tech companies we know, lol. I think having this frustration with mixing letters in what used to be all numbers stems from Algebra. I know I was shocked when we started having to look for x in math.
Will it really look like this?
Although there have been a ton of leaks from the Development Kit on the PlayStation 5, and what it’s supposed to look like. There is a history when it comes to the images that are leaked from Development Kits. More often than not, the actual consoles don’t look anything like what they were supposed to in the early stages of development. So admittedly, the Development Kit photos on PlayStation 5 looks really cool. But along with this design, came with the idea that they were going to call it the ‘PlayStation V’. But since they just announced the official name, the idea behind this style on the console may be changed entirely.
What does “in time for Holiday 2020” mean exactly?
It means, it’s going to be released during the fourth quarter of the year. Namely, October through December. We can already see kids writing up their Christmas lists for 2020. All you poor parents with console loving kids better be prepared for next year’s holiday season.
Upcoming PS4 titles you need to watch out for!
They eneded their announcement by saying:
“While there’s much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead, we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on PS4, including Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima. I’d like to thank all PlayStation fans for continuing the journey with us, as we embark on the future of games.”
