Whoops! Banning that Pro Hearthstone player wasn’t the best move Blizzard! Now fans are starting a massive boycott movement!
It looks like Blizzard made a huge mistake by banning a Pro Hearthstone player because of his political views. And now fans are starting a massive movement to Boycott Blizzard Entertainment! There are even players who have been playing Blizzard games for 20 years that are canceling their subscriptions. Fans and players have even made #BoycottBlizzard a trend on Twitter. Want to know how it all escalated to this? Read on to find out!
Who was the Pro player Blizzard banned from e-sports?
It was the banning of professional Hearthstone player, Ng Wai “blitzchung” Chung, that started all this. And you want to know the reason why? It’s because during an interview he expressed his support for the protest in Hong Kong. It was his interview after his win against South Korean player Jang “DawN” Hyun Jae, last October 6. And soon after, the video of his interview has been taken down. In the interview, he wore a gas mask, as a symbol of those who protest to protect their identities. And later on in the interview, he stated his stand on the issue as he said, “Liberate Hong Kong, (the) revolution of our age!”
But technically, Blizzard had every right to take “blitzchung” off the air. Because according to Blizzard he violated the 2019 Hearthstone Grandmasters Official Competition rules, specifically section 6.1:
“Engaging in any act that, in Blizzard’s sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the player’s prize total to $0 USD, in addition to other remedies which may be provided for under the Handbook and Blizzard’s Website Terms.”
Blizzard looks like you’re canceled!
A swarm of fans on Twitter has expressed how they took the matter to heart. A lot of them have started to cancel their subscriptions to Blizzard. And even asking for a refund on games! Check out some of the Tweets below:

I’ve refunded my copy of Activision-Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Shame. I wanted to play it.

The fans and players are all raging! So what’s your stand in this whole thing? Do you think Blizzard was in the right to ban a player for his political views? After all, they are a private company. Or are you one of those who want to boycott Blizzard?
