It has been more than ten years since its failed PC and PS3 launch, and now, the creators of Final Fantasy XIV are bringing new life to the popular MMORPG.

During a reveal event on Friday, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to PlayStation 5. The next-gen version will launch an open beta on April 13, 2021, and will run in 4k resolution.

A teaser trailer published on Final Fantasy XIV’s official Twitter page promises a “richer, even more beautiful Eorza,” a much clearer resolution interface, and faster loading times. Watch the trailer below!

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), whose original version released in 2010 turned out to be both a critical and commercial failure, meriting a replacement game that was launched in 2013.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is what the new game is called. Set five years after the events of the 2010 version, the story happens in the fictional realm of Eorzea, where players and their customized “Adventurers” embark on a journey while dealing with the invasion by the Garlean Empire and the threat of the Primals.

Apart from the PS5 version, Square Enix also announced a new expansion pack: Endwalker, which marks a new, exciting beginning for players of the MMO. It will feature the climax of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story, as well as two new jobs, new areas to explore, and a level cap raised to 90.

For players already registered for the PS4 game, we’ve got good news for you! During the beta, you’ll be able to get your hands on the optimized version at no extra cost.
