Epic Games flexes its latest creative tool that gives gamers a solid reason to get hyped up about the next-generation consoles.

Introducing the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), they show off the stunning capabilities of the future consoles through a demo running on PlayStation 5. Called Lumen In The Land Of Nanite, the tech demo features a jaw-dropping visual quality and incredibly detailed and photorealistic lighting.

‘One of our goals in this next generation is to achieve photorealism on par with movie CG and real life, and put it within practical reach of development teams of all sizes through highly productive tools and content libraries,’ said Epic Games.

‘Nanite virtualized geometry means that film quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons can be imported directly into Unreal Engine and it just works.’  Nanite is a virtual geometry system that will allow games to have billions of polygons.

While the playable demo looks similar to Tombs Raider, it’s not gonna be an actual game to be released. However, the demo marks the first time gamers get to see PlayStation5 in action. So, as gamers anticipate the launch of PlayStation5 later this year, they have a very good reason to believe the next console will offer a lot more than the previous ones.
