According to a new study, Among Us is the most stress-inducing video game this year.
Yup. Not that we weren’t aware of how our heartbeat rushes each time we play, but Among Us, our go-to party game when we want to relieve a day’s stress, actually turns out to be a bounty source of stress itself. The study, conducted by a website called ManySpins, involves 705 gamers getting their heart rate measured as they play a wide selection of popular video games with an initial average heart rate of 67.
Topping the list is the Innersloth-developed murder-mystery multiplayer, tallying 112 average heart rate with a 67% increase. Well, the competition isn’t really that tight. The next titles on the list just fell quite short, with the second leading one, League of Legends, almost reigning supreme with a 64% increase in a player’s heart rate. These games are followed by DOTA 2 at 63%, Fall Guys at 60%, and Rocket League at 57%.

As you can see on the list, it’s the online multiplayer titles that have been giving players the most stress. You can also notice how the least stressful games are role-playing games. 71% of the participants attributed the increase in their heart rate to playing against other players. 69% of them said that it’s the fast-paced gameplay that stresses them out, while 64% blames it on their determination to beat a fellow human player.
Well, considering these reasons, there’s no question why Among Us, which continues to dominate many platforms, has earned its spot as the most taxing of them all. In a game where betrayal, manipulation, and the constant anticipation of getting yourself killed at any given moment are required for you to win, your nerves are as much an enemy as the impostor.
