Wear your colors proud and loud as we all march to #MakePrideHappen!
June couldn’t come fast enough! And now it is finally here. The month of June has been considered the Month of Pride for the LGBTQIA+ community and it all started from the Stonewall event in New York in 1969 where members of the now called LGBT community demonstrated against police raids.
Today, many cities perform marches of pride in the month of June to celebrate the LGBT community and to further several causes such as unity and equality. And everyone is always welcome to join! Gay or not, if one person believes in the cause that the event is for, then the streets are wide open!
Metro Manila Pride
Metro Manila Pride will now be the third ever pride march in the country. It will be held in the Marikina Sports Complex. The local government supports the cause and so this is where it is traditionally held. This year’s theme would be to #ResistTogether, and it is a protest against injustice and oppression.
Growing up in the environment I am in, I wasn’t able to observe that the Filipino LGBT community was being oppressed and treated with injustice. As a matter of fact, the Philippines is one of the most gay-friendly countries. But we also have the most restrictive laws when it comes to the LGBT. Only when I did some research and hear stories from other acquaintances that I realized that it is still a cause that needs to be raised.
Nonetheless, I think it would just be fair to say that compared to the previous times, acceptance to the LGBT has significantly improved over the years. It is also great to see that these people’s fight weren’t all in vain.
When? Where? I want to join!
The event at the Marikina Sports Complex will be held on June 29, 2019. Further details are yet to be announced. The organizers are also still accepting registrations for corporate partnerships, volunteers, merchant, and food stalls through their Facebook page until the 15th.
Willing to be a sponsor? The organizers have also started a GoGetFunding so that the event would be more open to the community. You can donate now!
Come in your most fabulous outfit or buy their shirts! Pride month is all about bringing acceptance and respect to the current and former members of the LGBT who tirelessly fought for their right to a discrimination-free life.
