UPDATE: Due to scheduling conflicts, Sohee has pulled out of the event. Future funk/lo-fi producer and NOFACE RECORDS member ｙｏｕｎｇｓｌｅｅｐｙｂｏｉ has been added to the lineup!
Spend your pre-Valentines weekend up north for one of the best curated gigs so far! The Flying Lugaw and Furiosa proudly presents The Birth of NU, happening February 9 at Mow’s.
The Flying Lugaw X Furiosa
The Flying Lugaw (TFL) and Furiosa’s common goal is simple: to shine a light on the other side of local independent music via different platforms. TFL is a notorious zine-styled blog who are known for providing the best and disowning the worst of local music. Meanwhile, Furiosa’s monthly gigs provides a space for musicians that come from otherworldly genres such as folk, shoegaze, indie-rock, garage-rock, post-rock, dream pop, electronic, and experimental. The Furiosa team is very particular about their lineups, but they’ve given TFL the honors of choosing their own acts.
The name “The Birth of NU” implies a fresh lineup, but that’s not the case. They’ve chosen musicians who have different lengths of history in the local music scene; an eclectic mix of veterans and up-and-comers. Pastilan Dong, for example, have been in the noise-rock scene for almost half a decade. We’ve also got lo-fi hip-hop project Sohee on the lineup, and Pure Mind Quiet Heart will be dropping his food-related (seriously) bars on stage. Four-piece alt-folk/lo-fi band Ourselves the Elves, arguably the most popular on the lineup, have played all over the country. Shoegaze rock veterans the Rave Tapes will also be there to grace us with their presence. Make sure you don’t miss indie-pop darlings The Geeks to hear their newest tunes from their upcoming EP. On the other end of the spectrum, EAZYHEAD and college friends (now a full band!) are the up-and-comers of the night.
Doors open at 8:00PM sharp, with entrance priced at PHP150 with a free drink. The Birth of NU is the perfect opportunity for you to check out the other side of our local music scene! Catch you at Mow’s!
