“Damn”, Kendrick’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed “To Pimp a Butterfly”, includes 14 tracks with only two features. Two may not seem like a lot, but when you’ve got legendary rock group U2 and Rir, who appear on the tracks “XXX” and “LOYALTY” respectively—two is plenty. Haitan-Canadian Producer KAYTRANADA will also be appearing on the track “HUMBLE” alongside Canadian music group BadBadNotGood.
In the spirit of the imminent release of the next album, here are 5 things that K.Dot has done that has made people go “Daaaaaaamn”.
The masterpiece that is “To Pimp a Butterfly” is a shining example of why Kendrick is on top of the rap game. With tracks like “King Kunta” and “Alright” it’s hard to pick just one song that sticks out, but when the track features a 6-minute conversation with Tupac Shakur, this one’s a no brainer (READ: TUPAC TO THE HALL OF FAME).
The word “masterpiece” will come up a lot when talking about Kendrick Lamar. His compilation album of previously unreleased songs dropped in March 2016 and landed straight atop the US Billboard 200. The 8-track compilation album features a track with Cee-Lo Green doing backing vocals and Alicia Key’s 5-year old son as the producer of the another (LISTEN: UNTITLED UNMASTERED).
This next track was the first song released from Section.80. Kendrick’s always been known for dropping bars, but here’s something some people might not have caught. The hook for the song is actually a call back to Kanye West’s “So Appalled” from the album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” (LISTEN: HIIIPOWER). You can also watch a young Kendrick freestyle over the beat of “So Appalled” in the video below!

We featured these kicks in an article we did awhile back and they’re physical proof that Kendrick doesn’t just drop hot bars, he drops hot kicks too (READ: FRESH KICKS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM). Kendrick rocked the Club Cs back in the day and it’s a shoe that reminds him of his Compton roots. Check out the series of videos that Kendrick did for Reebok to find out more!
One song that evidently isn’t on “Damn” is “The Heart pt. 4”. The Heart songs started back in 2010 and tell the story of Kendrick’s journey as a rapper and a person. The songs can be found across the different EPs and albums from Overly Dedicated up until the release of “The Heart pt. 4”. Listen to “The Heart pt. 4” below!
So there you have it. Although we’ll probably have to add 14 more to the list as Kendrick’s new album drops on the 14th of April.
