Mediartrix is a multimedia organization inside the University of Santo Tomas and they’re inviting you to watch ‘William’!
In partnership with the Philippine Educational Theater Association, Ron Capinding’s “William” will be staged within the university campus of the growling tigers.
Looking for something interesting to check out this January? Then head into the University of Santo Tomas next week to catch the staging of “William“, a rap musical by Ron Capinding. A production under student-run multimedia organization Mediartrix, you are honestly in for a treat that is one of a kind.
Personally, I can vouch for the quality of productions by Mediartrix because… I am also a part of that world.

Originally written by Ron Capinding for the 44th season of the Philippine Educational Theater Association or PETA, “William” has since then become a crowd favorite amongst schools and theater-goers. After all, current rap music fills the musical along with relatable characters.
Moreover, the play has garnered several honors from the Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards which included Outstanding Play and Outstanding Original Script by the aforementioned playwright.

With this upcoming adaptation of the musical, Mediartrix aspires to stay true to the roots of the original PETA production. At the same time, the goal is to make it more relatable and resonant with the teens at present. If you want to know more about the premise of “William” though, read the synopsis for the play below.
Set in the contemporary world of Filipino junior high schoolers, “William” features the story of five students: Richard, Estela, TJ, Sophia, and Erwin; each with their own share of conflicts and issues. Assigned to present William Shakespeare and his works for their English class, they embark on a journey of learning and understanding the Bard and his writings as they discover their own voices through these borrowed words.

“William” is directed by UST alumnus Nicodemus Verona and it will run from January 21 to 23 and February 1 with shows happening at 3 PM and 7 PM each day. It will be held in the Albertus Magnus Auditorium at the University of Santo Tomas. Overall, the show is suitable for all ages that wish to take a closer look at William Shakespeare’s works.
The regular price of the tickets for “William” is at 150 pesos. Yes it is affordable, but the quality of Mediartrix’s plays is surely not something you should miss out on.
