Two years before leaving Sandwich, guitarist-vocalist Marc Abaya formed Kjwan in 2003. Together with Kelley Mangahas, Jorel Corpus, Boogie Romero, and J-hoon Balbuena, Kjwan released their self-titled debut album in 2004. Their second album “2StepMarv” ultimately blew up and got them six NU Rock Award nominations. After headlining international concerts and winning the IKON ASEAN Competition, they are now one of the country’s most successful rock groups. Inspired by the ability to determine a great song in just 13 seconds, they released “13 Seconds to Love” in 2009.
From being regulars at a now-defunct Makati club to opening for Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, and Megadeath; Razorback (shoutouts to Tito Kev, Tita Jan, and Ri!) is definitely one of the most iconic local rock bands of all time. Their second album “Beggar’s Moon“ became a commercial success and went platinum—”Ikot Ng Mundo” secured a nomination for Song of the Year at the NU 107 Rock Awards as well as David Aguirre bagging Guitarist of the Year.
Incepted in 2009, Wilderness quickly captured the hearts and souls of the local music scene. They released their debut album “Ballroom Dancing” in 2015, followed by their head high-esque “Regretful Polar Bear“ EP. Known to put on infectious, psychedelic mind-melting shows, this groovy bunch also branches out to other equally enticing musical projects. Brothers Miguel and Chiko Hernandez form The Hernandez Brothers while percussionist Pat Sarabia drums for Apartel.
20:20 is famed for their eclectic range of weekly themed nights, but Dugout! takes the cake. Join their celebration of local rock music every Wednesday for only P300—and that already includes one drink! Reserve your tables via text or email at 0917 634 8765 / email@example.com. Here’s a pro-tip: try a glass of their Mamasunn. You’ll thank me later.
