Netflix and filmmaker Adam McKay have joined forces to give these up-and-coming stars a job and an opportunity to prove themselves.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, and Timothée Chalamet are just a handful of new talents set to join the not-so-exciting cast of the upcoming film Don’t Look Up.

Written and directed by Adam McKay, who previously attempted to prove his filmmaking abilities in Anchorman 1 and 2, Step Brothers, and The Big Short, the Netflix comedy follows two astronomers who have discovered an approaching asteroid that could destroy the earth in six months. They go on a media tour to warn humanity of the impending doomsday, only to be met with an unbelieving audience. Reports say that Lawrence and DiCaprio will play the astronomers, although Netflix has yet to make an official confirmation.

Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Kid Cudi, and Matthew Perry are also included in this new wave of talents, in addition to Cate Blanchett and Rob Morgan who were already previously announced.

This will be Leonardo DiCaprio’s other on-going gig besides the film adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon, a non-fiction novel detailing the murders of the Osage people in Oklahoma. ‘Don’t Look Up‘ also marks Meryl Streep and Timothée Chalamet’s second project together since the award-winning, Greta Gerwig-directed ‘Little Women.’ Chalamet, one of the busier actors among the aforementioned newbies, stars in ‘Dune‘ and ‘The Frech Dispatch.’

I mean, this film could have at least tapped the service of a veteran just so viewers would have someone to recognize once it hits the big screen. But no. They chose a selection of unknown nobodies who have yet to be popular. Best of luck to the cast, though. Our fingers are crossed that this film serves as their ticket to stardom.

Don’t Look Up is set to start filming before this year ends and scheduled for a 2021 release on Netflix.
