Well, not that nobody expected it. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Given the massive success of The Umbrella Academy’s second season that arrived on Netflix in September, a third one is practically inevitable.
Yep. As soon as the superhero drama graced the streaming platform, it immediately dominated the weekly streaming charts, even outshining already established crowd-favorites like ‘The Office’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ So, it shouldn’t be asked if we’re still gonna be seeing the Hargreeves siblings in action again. It’s a matter of when.

Netflix has just announced its renewal of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ for its third season, which will consist of 10 hour-long episodes like its predecessors. The streaming giant also revealed that the filming for the superhero series is slated to kick off in February 2021 in Toronto, Canada. This setup is presumably due to the on-going pandemic in the United States.
Returning for the third season to reprise their roles are the original cast, which includes Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore. Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will be back as Showrunner and Executive Producer.
For some refresher, the second season saw the superpowered Hargreeves family scattered in time across Dallas, Texas– a glitch caused by Five escaping from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse. As the last one to land, Five found himself in a world ravaged by a nuclear doomsday, which is also a result of the group’s messing with the timeline. Now, the team had to reunite and find out what was causing the new apocalypse– all while being hunted by a trip of deadly Swedish assassins.
For the third season, Netflix has yet to announce a release date.
