It’s that time of that year again where we like to dress up as different creatures, and maybe even scare ourselves. And if you’re a fan of the latter, you’re in luck ’cause we’ve rounded up 9 of the scariest classics to watch this weekend!
Scary movies have been around since we can remember. And this lil list is really just a taste of how scary the world—the universe, rather—can be! So buckle your seat belts, boys and girls. This is going to be one helluva trip down memory lane with 9 of the scariest classics to watch this weekend!
9. Paranormal Activity (2007)
This is one of the newer films on our list. And the thing we love about this is that it uses a lot of your imagination, more than special effects. And we think that that’s what makes a horror movie a classic!
8. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
A lot of people have said that this is one of the movies you have to see before you die! (We just hope you don’t get a heart attack watching it.)
But SPOILER ALERT! We actually think all this drama could’ve been avoided if they knew what to do—turn their shirts inside-out, of course!
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
This is the movie that started the whole Freddy Krueger franchise. And you might want to know that the most haunting about this film isn’t actually Freddy, but his creepy song! You have to watch it to hear it. *wink*
One, two, Freddy’s coming for you
Three, four, lock the door
Five, six, get your crucifix
Seven, eight, stay up late
Nine, ten, never sleep again
6. Halloween (1978)
If for the last number we had, Freddy, this time, we’ve got Michael.
Halloween is one of those chilling slasher films that you can’t miss. And Michael? Oh, Michael, Michael, Michael. You wouldn’t want to miss him.
5. Shutter (2004)
We won’t miss the scariest Asian films, of course!
This one’s a classic because of its twist ending. And we’re sure it’ll haunt you for weeks! Make sure you smile for the camera and take selfies before watching this film, though.
Because after you watch it, you might not want to take a photo of yourself for a while.
4. It (1986)
A new It remake is out, but like most things, nothing beats the classic!
Take a trip down memory lane with a film that scared the hell out of our childhoods—well, at least for those who watched this film when they were younger.
Fair warning: this probably isn’t the best film to watch if you dislike clowns. BOO!
3. Ring (1998)
Another Asian film, this one’s a Japanese film taken from a classic book by Koji Suzuki.
This was also remade into a Hollywood film, and have a whole franchise around it, including a 3D film! And if you really want to get into the gory details, you have to watch this original film. We promise, this movie won’t let you sleep for days!
2. The Exorcist (1973)
Before all the exorcism movies, this is the first one that ruled the world.
Dubbed the scariest movie of all-time for a while, this movie is another one of those films that will haunt you after you watch it. Beware! If you live alone and have stairs at home, you might want to sleepover a friend’s house for a night or two. Yikes!
1. The Shining (1980)
One of the best Stephen King novel turned film of all-time, this is another film that you MUST watch before you die!
Starring Jack Nicholson, this film is kind of a slow-burner with an epic ending that will you at the edge of your seat! Not to mention, this film is also a very pop culture reference, so if you haven’t seen it yet, NOW’S THE TIME!
