As the 3rd Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino commences, so does the celebration for the 100 Years of Philippine Cinema!

On September 12, 1919, ‘Dalagang Bukid’ which was a movie made and shown by Filipino filmmaker José Nepomuceno, signified the start of cinema in the Philippines. And yesterday, September 12, 2019, we commemorate the 100th or the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema.

Just in time for this, the 3rd Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino also opened today to celebrate our very own local films.

As we remember all the Filipino movies that we have watched over the years, we can’t deny that there are a lot of iconic ones that really stand out. Aside from their beautiful stories, most of them really made a mark on the Filipino culture.

Don’t lie, there is at least one Filipino movie with lines that you have memorized.

So today, we at U Do U would also like to celebrate in our own little way by compiling some Filipino movies with the most iconic lines. SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t watched some movies which are here on our list, go watch them immediately! You are honestly missing out.

But if you already did, do not be afraid to feel nostalgic with us as we take a walk through time. *looks far away*

Here are our top 6 Filipino movies with the most iconic lines.

6. Milan (2004)

If you want to go ahead and look at this film’s iconic lines, 3:13 is the time stamp. You’re welcome.

What we love about this scene: The scenery was beautiful! Also, look at how their characters just quietly had their conversation. They talked with each other calmly and just said their feelings out loud. It’s a scene that we could all just simply imagine ourselves in.

5. Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang? (1998)

What we love about this scene: Maybe some, if not all, of us have experienced falling in love with a best friend. So Jolina’s character is really relatable. Wow though, the bravery to confess! U go girl!

4. Four Sisters and A Wedding (2013)

This scene has a lot of iconic lines so just watch the entire thing. We know you want to.

What we love about this scene: The drama, ugh. We Filipinos love drama and this one’s just really good to watch. With the different characters all brought together in one scene to confront some of their problems and secrets, it’s wonderful chaos!

3. One More Chance (2007)

Frankly, this movie is a guilty pleasure. No explanations needed.

What we love about this scene: Those lines. Damn, those lines. We know you know what we are talking about, how those lines just hit us straight through the heart. After all, we Filipinos love hugot or these declarations about the pain of loving someone. Also, the iconic John Lloyd-Bea pairing is just timeless.

2. Himala (1982)

What we love about this scene: The tragedy and story of this movie is hauntingly beautiful. Nora Aunor was amazing in this, convincing its viewers to empathize with her character. Plus points for public speaking too!

1. Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa? (1998)

What we love about this scene: It’s iconic! THAT iconic line plus THAT iconic slap? Because of how iconic it was, they even recreated it in another hit movie. YOU know this line, be honest.

Game time:

Because we know you enjoyed looking at those films, we have a mini-game for you.

We will write here some other iconic lines and YOU must guess the movie where it came from. There is no prize if you guess it right, but we all love fun, right?

  • My brother is not a pig! Ang kapatid ko’y tao, hindi baboy damo!
  • Isang bala ka lang.
  • I deserve an explanation! I deserve an acceptable reason.
  • Negosyo o kalayaan? Bayan o sarili? Pumili ka!
  • Ibalik mo sa akin si Junjun! Ibalik mo sa akin ang anak ko! AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

What are your answers to our mini-game above? Are there other movies with iconic lines that we have forgotten to include? Let us know through the comments below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh.
