At this point, there isn’t any role that Angelina Jolie can’t pull off. Her incredibly diverse filmography over the course of her decades-long career is enough proof of that. But let’s admit it: out of all the characters she has given life to, we’ll reach the consensus that it’s her role in action films that we’ve enjoyed watching the most. It’s been a while since we saw her going on electrifying car chases and fending off deadly assassins with her sharp shooting, and I’m sure we miss our Action Angelina. What if we tell you that she’s back?
Angelina Jolie’s latest film titled ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ will see the Hollywood legend going back to her action-thriller roots. In the trailer, Jolie plays a veteran fire warden who comes across a young boy in the woods. She learns that the kid has witnessed the murder of his father and is being pursued by a group of armed men. When the criminals start a wildfire in the hopes of covering their tracks, she must employ her expertise in wilderness survival while helping herself and the boy escape from the bad guys.
‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ marks Angelina Jolie’s highly-anticipated return to the big screen since Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. It is directed and co-written by Taylor Sheridan, who’s known for critically-acclaimed films ‘Wind River’ and ‘Hell or High Water’. Knowing the man’s knack for profound character study as seen in his previous works, we can expect that this film will be much more than its heart-skipping action scenes and will delve deep into the development of characters, particularly how the relationship between the protagonist and the kid plays out. The trailer reveals a little about the protagonist’s tragic past–something about her being unable to recover from failing to save three lives in a fire– so it’s interesting how this narrative will be explored amidst the suspenseful escape and the explosions and the killings.
Also, ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ boasts a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Jon Bernthal, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Finn Little, and Jake Weber.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” is set to release in theaters and HBO Max on May 14. Watch the trailer below!
