Let’s face it: a brand-new American Pie movie is something none of us needed.

Not that a new film is a bad thing, though; we just didn’t see it coming. While the original American Pie trilogy is now hailed as a cult classic of the sex comedy genre, gone are the days when people would demand more. It had its time, and teens of the late ’90s and early ‘2000s have long since grown out of pie humor. Sure, the American Pie: Reunion was well-received when it came out in 2012, but it served its purpose: to show that Stifler and the gang are now older and wiser and that we all should move on for the better.

American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules

Eight years later since we last got a title from the iconic teen flick series, an all-new film dares to disturb the silence, reviving the hype while offering a new beginning for the benefit of younger audiences.

Girls’ Rules is the latest addition in the American Pie Presents, which is a spinoff series based on the American Pie franchise. In other words, it’s not a direct sequel to the OG films but a standalone title joining Band CampThe Naked Mile, Beta House, and The Book of Love. It’s headed directly to DVD and digital on October 6 this year and will arrive on Netflix shortly afterward.

Yes, as indicated in the title, it’s an all-female cast, and based on the trailer, it follows the familiar storyline involving a bunch of high schoolers going all out at East Great Falls in their senior year. We aren’t sure if we’re about to see Noah Levenstein (aka Jim’s dad) who has appeared in all of the films by tradition, but the official film synopsis has been graced by the name STIFLER so that’s one of the things to look forward to.

But many fans are not pleased.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are already cringing ahead of the release. The trailers are getting more dislikes than likes, and the majority of Youtube comments all revolve around the central idea that Girls’ Rules would be the worst American Pie film to date. The fact that all leads would be female is giving them the notion that it’s gonna end up being another case of gender agenda ruining a great franchise. The 2016 Ghostbusters remake was violently slammed for the exact, same reason; Girls’ Rules is already reminiscent of this disaster.
