Holy water! The queen of possession movies is about to be revived.

You just got another reason to believe that 2021 is going to be a lot better year. The controversial 1970s horror classic that has scarred moviegoers for life is reportedly getting rebooted, according to Deadline. A recently published article dedicated to Dead Ringers casually drops the information that ‘The Exorcist’ remake is under development and it’s being handled by Morgan Creek Entertainment. “Current Morgan Creek projects include Stay Tuned at AMC, with a planned theatrical reboot of The Exorcist in the works for 2021,” says the article.

If this remake comes out, it won’t be the first time The Exorcist was revived in the modern age. Fox made a TV show spinoff in 2016 that ran for two seasons. The original film also got two sequels: The Exorcist II: The Heretic in 1977 and The Exorcist III in 1990, and a 2005 prequel titled Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist.

If you didn’t know, the 1973 supernational horror film was an adaptation of a 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty of the same name. It was directed by William Friedkin and produced and written for the screen by Blatty. It follows the 12-yea-old Regan (played by the legendary Linda Denise Blair) as she gets possessed by a demon and her mother attempts to save her with the help of two priests.

While 2021 is the target year for release, no other major details have been dropped, yet. Meanwhile, check out the theatrical trailer for the original ‘The Exorcist’ below!
