If there is a scandal, Lady Whistledown will surely uncover it.
That’s a big promise from the Shonda Rhimes-produced historical drama, Bridgerton, slated to premiere on Netflix on December 25.– a Christmas treat from the streaming service!
The showrunner behind Grey’s Anatomy is working with Netflix for a series of new projects, one of which is an adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Family series. If you’re not familiar with it, here’s what we know so far.
According to Netflix’s synopsis, Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynervor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she navigates, for the first time, Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to experience the same fate as her parents, she’s looking for a match sparked by true love.
“Let it be known: if there’s a scandal, I shall uncover it and share every last detail.”- Lady Whistledown
However, her attempts are interfered with by her brother, who starts to reject her potential suitors, and a lady who goes by the name of Lady Whistledown, who distributes scandal sheets amongst societies. Voiced by the legendary Julie Andrews, Whistledown’s role will be similar to Kristen Bell’s in Gossip Girl, as she will serve as some kind of an anonymous gossiper.
Soon, Bridgerton finds herself falling for the charming and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jene Page). Initially rejecting what the other has to offer, the pair’s undeniable attraction to one another will have them engaged in a battle of wits to know how they truly feel.
Bridgerton is a romantic, quick-witted series sure to adore fans of period drama. Although it’s technically from Shondaland, it’s Chris Van Dusen, a writer from Scandal, who will be the showrunner. Watch the trailer below!
