Filipino rapper Shanti Dope scored one for the team when his song “Amatz” made it to Hollywood, specifically in Marvel’s new series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.
In a scene on the third episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” where the two titular heroes took a trip to the fictional island of Madripoor in Southeast Asia, the song “Amatz” could be heard in the background.
Shortly after the feature broke out, Shanti Dope became a trending topic on the internet as Filipino netizens congratulated the young artist for this amazing feat. Even the hip-hop icon gloc-9 expressed his support, telling Shanti, “Sobrang Proud kami sa inyo #Klumcee at #shantidope ibang level itoooo!!! Congrats mga tol!!!”
For those who were unaware, the song “Amatz” became the subject of controversy as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) tried to ban it for allegedly promoting drug use.
Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and follows the action-packed adventures of the titular superheroes: Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, and the Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan. The show is currently available only on Disney+, a streaming platform that has yet to be in the Philippines so we can only guess how some already got to watch it.
