Patrick takes the spotlight this time.
Spongebob’s best buddy is reportedly getting his own show. According to sources, Nickelodeon is pushing through with their plans to spin more shows off the iconic Spongebob Squarepants, and one of the spinoffs will center on the perpetually topless pink starfish.
The Patrick Star Show will see Patrick, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke, hosting his own talk show. The concept is said to be similar to The Larry Sanders Show and Comedy Bang! Bang!, and reports say it will revolve around Patrick’s family.
Fagerbakke is reportedly working with a mainly new set of cast members voicing new characters, but the original Spongebob cast members are also expected to make frequent appearances to reprise their roles.
Spongebob Squarepants is– if not the greatest– one of the greatest animated shows to have come out of Nickelodeon. That is why in 2019, Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins announced the network’s intent to create more spinoffs.
One of the titles revealed was Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, which chronicles Spongebob’s baby years and serves as a prequel to the original show. It was initially expected to release on Nickelodeon in July 2020 but was later on moved to CBS All Access to premiere in early 2021.
We also have been previously told about Nickelodeon’s collaboration with Netflix for a series starring Squidward Tentacles. Although that seemed very promising considering how Squidward’s snarky, grumpy character resonates with the adult fans and the show could have been a less-depressing version of Bojack Horseman, we haven’t heard any updates from either of the two companies.
