Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its upcoming workplace comedy series ‘Space Force’.

The trailer shows four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) tapped to be the head of the Space Force– the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces led by US President Donald Trump in real life. In an attempt at space dominance, the White House tasks Naird to team up with a group of scientists and “Spacemen” and set foot on the moon once again. Soon, Naird finds himself having trouble pulling off the job.

A brainchild of “The Office”-mates

Space Force is co-created by Steve Carrell and Greg Daniels– two big names from the massively acclaimed The Office. According to Steve, Netflix came up with the initial concept– a parodic, fictitious take on Space Force– which they all found funny. Soon, Greg and the team found themselves brainstorming at Steve’s house, making plans for Steve’s character and the show’s plot.

Steve Carell said:

“Once we had just the concept of Space Force itself, Greg and I sat down and we asked, ‘Well, what’s the show going to be? What will it be about?’ And we landed on the idea that it should be about the inception of Space Force. It should be about the person who is entrusted with the development, the creation of a new branch of the Armed Forces. And my character, General Mark R. Naird, is the person who’s drafted into creating this branch.”

According to Greg Daniels, they sought the help of astronaut advisors, science advisors, and their. military advisor, Mark Vazquez to ensure they were being accurate and respectful in portraying Naird’s military virtues. “Both Steve and I have relatives in the military who we love and respect, and hope are going to enjoy watching the show,” he added.

Joining Steve Carrel in the star-studded series are John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, alongside Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake.

Space Force is a 10-episode series, set to premiere on Netflix on May 29. For more updates, you can follow its official page on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
