Netflix is advancing the holiday celebration with their Christmas flick “Holidate.”
The streaming service has just revealed the trailer for the newest addition to its library of romantic comedies, and this one will arrive just in time for the holidays. As implied by its title “Holidate,” it’s a romantic love story set during the holiday season, played out by Scream Queens’ Emma Roberts and Australian actor Luke Bracey.
Before you proceed, let us warn you that this film is as generic as its title makes it out to be. From the plot synopsis to the casting, it will remind you of every cheesy rom-com out there. But then, isn’t this exactly what we need in this bizarreness of a year– some good old cliched popcorn flick that will put some sense of normalcy back into our lives?
The trailer sees a woman named Sloane ( Emma Roberts) succumbing to the pressure of being the only single person in the family. Fed up with her family’s comments on her being alone and their attempts to push her to shoot her shot at romance, she decides to enter a friends-with-benefits sort of relationship with Jackson (played by Luke Bracey), who is also single and facing similar issues like hers. According to their agreement, they will be each other’s “holidate” on each festive celebration throughout the year so they both can survive the holidays with their respective families.
Yep, we get it: just by reading some of the story details, you already know how this is gonna end.
“Holidate” is directed by John Whitesell, who had previously done wonders on Malibu’s Most Wanted and Big Momma’s House 2. The Christmas film also stars Andrew Bachelor, Jessica Capshaw, Manish Dayal, Alex Moffat, Jake Manley, Cynthy Wu with Frances Fisher and Kristin Chenoweth.
“Holidate” streams on October 28 only on Netflix. Watch the trailer below!
