“I wish I knew then what I know today.”

The Co-creator of the 25-year old famous sitcom, “Friends” got emotional in a recent panel discussion at an ATX TV. Kauffman, who also co-created Grace and Frankie, was asked on a virtual panel interview and she admitted that she didn’t do enough to showcase diverse talent.

If we take a look back, the hit 90’s sitcom has been criticized in recent years for its lack of diversity, including some of its cast members.

“I wish I knew then what I know today. I would have made very different decisions,” Kauffman expressed.

“I mean we’ve always encouraged people of diversity in our company, but I didn’t do enough and now all I can think about is, what can I do? What can I do differently? How can I run my show in a new way? And that’s something I not only wish I knew when I started showrunning, but I wish I knew all the way up through last year.” she added during the 2020 ATX TV Festival.

To give you a little refresher, ‘Friends‘  is one of the beloved sitcoms of all time, running for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004.
