The highly anticipated follow-up to 1996’s Space Jam has unveiled a key aspect of the movie: LeBron’s jersey.
Through The LeBron James Family Foundation social media pages, the NBA superstar provided his fans a 12-second sneak peek at what he’s gonna be wearing once we see him dribbling and dunking with the Tune Squad in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Enhancing Michael Jordan’s uniform in the original film, the new outfit shows the Looney Tunes logo jutting out from the side and stretching down to the shorts unlike the first one where the entirety of the logo is imprinted on the chest area.

Similar to the fate of Jordan’s character in the 1996 film, it seems like LeBron James will be teaming up with the Tune Squad. Aside from the primary Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Lola Bunny, the movie also stars Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Chiney Ogwumike, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi, and Nneka Ogwumike. It also sees appearances by Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Plans for a Space Jam sequel have begun right after it became a hit, but with Michael Jordan’s refusal to return, the development was halted. There were also talks about possible spinoffs starring other athletes like Tiger Woods, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Hawk, but none became a reality until the LeBron-led film was officially announced in 2014.
Produced by Warner Animation Group, Space Jam: A New Legacy is due to release in summer 2021.
