FEATURES: Why Nadine backed out from ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’

Sadly, Nadine Lustre has backed out from doing the Filipino remake of ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’. But don’t worry, we have a new Ye-seung!

I know we all got excited when we heard that Nadine Lustre and Aga Mulach were teaming up to do a Pinoy remake on the highly acclaimed Korean drama ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’. The movie was a great hit internationally! And if you’re going to tell us you didn’t cry watching it, then you’re heartless.

The story follows a mentally challenged man who was wrongly accused and convicted of rape and murder. While imprisoned, he found a way to smuggle his daughter where she then built wonderful friendships with his dad’s cellmates. She then took up law and proved his dad’s innocence many years after he was executed. It’s a real tear-jerker if you ask me.

Unfortunately, Nadine Lustre reportedly backed out of playing Ye-seung for the Metro Manila Film Festival entry.

Why Nadine backed out

It’s a bummer that she won’t get to play Ye-seung anymore. Nadine’s acting skills have really evolved into something worthy of the numerous awards she had gotten just this year! Working with long-time actor Aga Mulach would have been another huge step we can add to her long list of accomplishments this year. Sadly, Nadine had to back out of the deal for one reason: she wanted to take some time off for herself.

We all know Nadine to be an adventurous spirit. In her Instagram, she shares photos of her trips (she has a great IG feed by the way), and we know her to value her personal relationships very much. Having done two movies this year already, ‘Ulan‘ and ‘Indak‘. Nadine also revealed she’s working on something with ABS-CBN. Would it be a telenovela? We don’t know yet! She was tight-lipped about the details, but that only makes it all the more exciting! And with all the projects she’d had this year, I think this is a well deserved time out!

Bela Padilla as Ye-seung

But fret not, they already found the perfect woman to play Ye-seung’s role! That’s right, Bela Padilla stepped in for Nadine. Having watched her from the movies to doing series with ABS-CBN, I must say she really grew a lot as an actress, too! And besides, we already have seen Bela play a lawyer in ‘Sinong May Sala’, a series written by Mea Culpa, where she defends herself for being accused of stealing the child of another woman played by Jodi Sta. Maria. Only this time, she would be a girl fighting for justice for her dad who was unrightfully punished. There’s a lot of emotion that goes into this role which we’re sure Bela could deliver!

Nadine shared that she’s happy that Bela took the role as she knew she would do it justice! However, her statement about her reason contradicts Viva Entertainment’s initial and official statement that Nadine backed out of it for health reasons.

It’s sad that Nadine can’t play the role, but I’m sure we’ll see her in some other projects after she takes her break! In the meantime, tell us how you feel about Bela playing the role! Share us your thoughts on the comments down below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh.
