Sam Claflin will be joining the cast of ‘Peaky Blinders’ this season 5! Will Thomas Shelby finally be meeting his match? SPOILER ALERT!
The historical series, ‘Peaky Blinders’ is returning with a BANG in Season 5 together with a new character portrayed by Sam Claflin! He will be playing Oswald Mosley. You’re probably asking, “Who is this mysterious man?” Well, lucky for you we’ve got all the deets about this new hottie.
But before that, let’s have a little recap of what’s happened in the past seasons. In the last season of ‘Peaky Blinders’, the Shelby family is up against mob boss Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody). Casualties aside (RIP John Shelphy), Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) goes through this great turmoil and ends up becoming a Labor MP with a landslide vote. Other than that, he also conceives a child with Lizzie!
Picking up from what Season 4 left, the new season will be about the end of the financial decline in the 1930s and Tommy’s journey as a Labour MP.
Who is Oswald Mosley?
Seeing that the series has historical substance, Oswald Mosley is based on the real Oswald Mosley who was a powerful politician in the 1920s and 1930s as the leader of the British Union of Fascists.
Sam Claflin will be portraying this fascist but he teased that show’s version of Mosley would be a little different from the original one.
In an interview with Claflin, he obviously hinted us that Tommy would be meeting his match with Oswald. He said: “Tommy is out of his comfort zone – he’s playing the big boy’s game. He’s playing chess if you will, and Oswald Mosley grew up playing chess. It’s the big fish in a small pond going into the ocean all of a sudden.”
“The two of them enjoy the challenge of trying to outwit one another using each other to better themselves,” he added.
We can’t wait!!!
What’s in store?
What’s more, we thought that Season 5 would be the end of ‘Peaky Blinders’ but creator Steven Knight sets his eyes with a sixth and seventh season. Thank God!
“I love doing it. I love the world,” he said. “We were originally going to end it with this series, but I just thought that there’s so many people who are just getting into it now. It’d be such a shame to stop.”
He even took the time to say his sentiments regarding the show: “My intention always has been to redeem [Tommy] so that at the end he’s genuinely a good man doing good things.” Aww.
So this won’t be the last of Thomas Shelby! Yas! Season 5 started airing on August, 29 on BBC but we, Netflix users, still have to wait until the season ends before watching it. Dang it! So stay tuned for more ‘Peaky Blinders’ updates!
